Temporary Terminal Now in Operation

Our airport team, along with tenants, have completed an overnight relocation of all airport services into the temporary terminal (located at the Eastern – Railway Road – end of our existing terminal).

With the big move now complete, our contractors LT McGuinness have begun deconstructing the Western (Milson Line) wing of the current terminal. This will be followed swiftly by construction of the first half of our new terminal.

Construction of the new terminal will happen in two phases:

  • Phase One (2025–2026):Deconstruct the Western half of the new terminal, and build half of the new terminal.
  • Phase Two (2026–2027): Once completed, services will switch from the temporary terminal into the new Western wing, allowing construction to begin on the Eastern side.
  • The full terminal is scheduled to open in mid-2027.

A Smooth Experience During Construction

During the planned two-year construction period, we’re asking airport users to allow extra time when visiting the airport. To assist you, we’ve introduced refreshed wayfinding signage and our expanded airport team will be on hand to ensure everyone has a smooth experience.

Our airport remains fully operational throughout construction. While the temporary terminal is smaller, it has been designed to accommodate all check-in, departures and arrivals functions.

Visitors can still get a coffee or meal from our café, which has relocated to the ground floor, while Air New Zealand’s regional lounge remains in its current location on the second floor. Bathrooms are located within both the temporary departures and arrivals areas.

Supporting Local

We’re pleased to partner with LT McGuinness on this project, who have proven themselves through the delivery of some of Manawatū’s most significant builds over the past five years. This includes the Palmerston North Police Station, Massey University’s iconic Refectory, and the Palmerston North Hospital’s Mental Health Unit.

The LT team has been involved with our temporary terminal project since early 2024, and their performance to date means we’re confident they’re the right team to lead the construction of the new terminal. They share our values around the importance of supporting local, which was an important factor for us when selecting a contractor. Their experienced team, supported by a number of local contractors and labourers, will help deliver a terminal our region can be proud of.
