There’s a lot happening at the airport at the moment, so here’s a quick update, especially as we head into the exciting holiday travel season.
Loop Road Update
Our Terminal Loop Road (the road directly in front of the terminal) is now closed to all traffic until the end of May 2026. This is so we can complete important upgrades to the terminal’s power, water and sewer systems, as part of our wider Terminal Development Project. All carparks remain open and accessible, however, public buses will now stop on Airport Drive, adjacent to the terminal. If you need assistance getting to the bus stops, please see our team at the help desk.
Terminal Development Progress
There’s lots on the go – a shipment of steel arrived last week, and you’ll soon see the steel portal frame going up at the Western end of the terminal. Next year, construction will begin on the central section of the building, which will feature large laminated timber beams. We know how important working with local suppliers and manufacturers is, and we’re pleased to have these beams supplied by Levin-based Techlam NZ – who our team visited to see the lamination process first-hand. You may also notice a large crane onsite over summer – this is all part of building your new, future-ready terminal.
Heading away these holidays?
If you’re travelling over summer, a few reminders to help make your journey smoother:
- Please allow a bit of extra time to get to and through the temporary terminal
- Listen out for airline announcements, as there may be some additional construction noise
- Our team is always here to help, so if you need a hand navigating the temporary layout, just ask
We appreciate everyone’s patience while this important work continues.
