Settling Into Our Temporary Terminal
After the big effort from the airport team and tenants to relocate everyone, it’s been fantastic to see the new temporary space come to life. The additional operation staff we’ve added to our frontline team have been invaluable in helping airport users navigate the new layout, and we’ve generally had positive feedback.
We’re continuing to fine-tune the space to ensure it’s fit for purpose, which includes additional wayfinding signage and adjustments to the heating system to keep everyone comfortable. Demolition Underway
The Western end of our former terminal has now been officially handed over to our contractors, LT McGuinness. The team have made great progress on the demolition. Check out some of our behind-the-scenes photos!
While it’s all exciting stuff, the team are also working really hard to make sure we keep this space extra safe. Strict safety protocols are in place, and some of the tools on-site include a FOD (foreign object debris) boss machine, which collects loose debris, and water cannons that help us manage any dust.
The team has also been stripping and salvaging reusable items, so we can store and reuse them down the track. The bulk of what’s left over is set for recycling, thanks to the efforts of one of our local sub-contractors, Central Demolition.
Looking Ahead
Construction of the new terminal will continue in two major phases
- Phase One (2025–2026):Deconstruct the Western half of the new terminal, and build half of the new terminal. Currently underway.
- Phase Two (2026–2027): Once completed, services will switch from the temporary terminal into the new Western wing, allowing construction to begin on the Eastern side.
- The full terminal is scheduled to open in mid-2027.
