Temporary Terminal Construction Well Underway
Our contractors LT McGuinness have been on site since October constructing the temporary terminal, and there have been some significant transformations.
The rental car operators are now located in portacom units just outside the main terminal area, adjacent to the rental carpark.
Our former valet parking facility area has also undergone major work, being converted into a temporary airline check-in and departures facility. The contractors have completed this build and are now fitting out the departures space and constructing the temporary café in the former rental car operator area. Passenger services, including check in and departures and the café/retail, are programmed to relocate into this area in the middle of this year.
Uninterrupted Service
As we planned, our airport will continue operating while construction is underway. Our focus remains on minimising disruptions for tenants and travellers and ensuring that those coming to our region have a positive experience. This includes extensive communications with our wider community and those in neighbouring regions – we are working to manage expectations and ensure those visiting us feel well-informed.
Latest Timeline
Our updated timeline is as follows:
Mid-2025
Board approval received for the award of the main construction contract. All passenger operations shift into the temporary terminal, and deconstruction of the western end of the terminal (Milson Line end) begins.
Mid-2026
The completed western end of the new terminal will open, and airline check in, bag processing, departures, and the regional lounge will shift into their new home. A temporary café/retail, public amenities and baggage reclaim will be provided. Construction of the eastern end will begin.
Mid-2027
The eastern end of the new terminal will be completed and will include café/retail, arrivals, bag reclaim, and public amenities. Rental car operators will also relocate to the eastern end of the terminal from their portacoms.
