Refunds coming for airport parking customers after system error

10 October 2022

MEDIA RELEASE

Some customers who parked at Palmerston North Airport in August and September this year may be eligible for a refund after a system software error saw a number of customers overcharged for their parking.

The error impacted customers who parked for over 33 hours in our General Carpark between Thursday 11 August 2022 and Wednesday 21 September 2022, with the over-charged amounts ranging between $0.50 to $22.

Palmerston North Airport Limited CEO David Lanham says that while the Airport has been able to automatically identify and will reverse most overcharges, there are a small number of customers that we are yet to identify.

“We’ve been able to identify the customers who paid for their parking with their credit or debit card and these customers will have the overcharged amount refunded automatically. However, there are a small number of customers who paid for parking with cash or their Eftpos card that we would like to identify so that we can offer a refund for the overcharged amount.”

Customers who believe they may have been overcharged are invited to check their eligibility via an information page available on the Palmerston North Airport website. If eligible and all relevant information has been provided, refunds of the overcharged amount will be processed within 10 working days.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for impacted customers to check their eligibility and to select how they wish to treat their refund, options including; receiving a refund to their nominated bank account, receiving a carparking voucher, or for the funds to be donated to Wildbase Hospital.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience this system software issue has caused and we want our customers to know that our priority is on making things right and ensuring that this type of issue does not happen again.”
