Licence plate recognition

how it works

Entering our Car Parks

  1. Drive into the carpark entry lane, slow or stop in front of the barrier arm.
  2. A LPR camera will read your licence plate number, record your time of entry, and automatically open the barrier arm.
  3. This is a ticket-less system (unless the camera cannot read your licence plate, see below for further details).
  4. Drive in and park.

If the camera cannot read your licence plate number

  1. In this scenario the barrier arm will remain down.
  2. Press the button and take a ticket from the machine. The barrier arm will open, proceed into the carpark.
  3. Keep the ticket with you – you will need it to pay at a pay station before you return to your vehicle.

Payment options

  1. Pay at Paystation. Before returning to your vehicle, you can make payment at one of our pay stations by entering your licence plate or presenting your ticket. You can pay by cash or card and request a receipt.
  2. Pay with PayWave at Exit Barrier. Alternatively, if you did not take a ticket at the entry, you can use PayWave at the exit barrier. The LPR camera will read your license plate and display the tariff on the exit machine screen, tap your payment card on the card reader and the barrier will raise for you. Receipts are not available at the exit barriers.

Exiting the Car Parks

  1. Approach the exit barrier arm, the camera will read your licence plate number.
  2. If there is no fee remaining, the barrier arm will open.
  3. If you have not paid, the tariff will be displayed on the exit machine screen, pay using PayWave.
  4. The barrier arm will then open.

WHY THE CHANGE?

We understand that your time is valuable, which is why we’ve introduced LPR technology to streamline your carparking experience. With this new system in place, you can enjoy a windows up entry and exit from our carparks, allowing you to get on with your day without delay.

We're here to Help

Should you have any questions or require assistance with the new LPR system, use the call button on a paystation, or at the entry and exit machines.

All your Licence Plate Recognition questions answered. See below for helpful information about using your corporate account and parking using License Plate Recognition at the airport.

FaQ

The Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) system uses cameras mounted at entry and exit points in the General and Long Stay carparks to read your vehicle license plate number, rather than needing a paper ticket.

For majority of vehicles coming into the carpark, the Licence Plate Recognition system will read the license plate and the barrier will open automatically. There may be some cases where the camera cannot read your licence plate number e.g. dirty or an obstructed license plate.

If the barrier does not open automatically, press the button and take a ticket from the machine. The barrier arm will open, proceed into the carpark.

Pay at a paystation before returning to your car and use the ticket to exit.

Our payment machines now have a touch screen that you can use to enter your licence plate number.

You can pay for your parking by PayWave, credit, debit of EFTPOS card at all paystations or by cash the paystation located within the Pick Up & Drop Off shelters.

We recommend taking a photo of your licence plate number when you park so it’s easy to remember.

If you need assistance at a paystation, entry or exit barriers, you can press the call button and one of the team will provide assistance. Alternatively you can also approach an Airport Ambassador within the terminal for assistance.

You can call for assistance using the call button if you run into any issues exiting or paying for parking at the exit barriers.

If you are paying at a paystation, you will have the option to select a receipt upon payment confirmation. If you pay via PayWave at an exit gate, please email info@pnairport.co.nz and provide your license plate number and a screenshot of the bank statement showing the payment. A team member will then be able to issue you a receipt.

FAQ - Corporate Account holders

The LPR system will not be able to associate the vehicle with your corporate account if the license plate number has not been provided to PNAL using the official form. Payment will need to be made at a paystation or at exit from the carpark.

No effective 12th August 2024 when LPR goes live corporate cards will cease to at entry or exit.

You can add or delete licence plates from your corporate account at any time. Please email info@pnairport.co.nz with the license plate number.

The LPR system is unable to distinguish between corporate and personal use of a registered vehicle. The corporate account manager/employer will need to rearrange reimbursement from the employee directly.
