Airfield operations manager

Applications are being sought for Rescue Fire Officers.  We welcome suitable applicants from all relevant backgrounds and sectors to apply for the role.

Firefighting experience is preferred, but we will be considering applicants with other relevant experience as the required training will be provided to be proficient and successful in the role.

You must be physically fit and able to pass a pre-employment fitness test and medical, and an Aviation Security check. You will be working on a rotating 24-hour roster (4 days on, 4 days off).

About us:

Palmerston North Airport Ltd is one of a handful of New Zealand airports which operate 24/7 and are curfew free.  With up to forty flights per day, scheduled passenger air services link Palmerston North Airport to Auckland, Nelson, Blenheim and Christchurch.  Air service development is a key priority at Palmerston North Airport with the reintroduction of scheduled domestic jet services likely in the short term.

Palmerston North is also a key node on the New Zealand express freight network, with 20 Boeing 737 freighter movements operating overnight each week.

Palmerston North Airport is entering an exciting phase in its evolution, with a new 5,000m2 terminal building currently under construction and an 8,000m2 warehouse & office complex to commence in the new year.  Additional airside hangars for aeromedical tenants and a commercial precinct are also in the planning phase.

At Palmerston North Airport we place a strong emphasis on the importance of team culture.  Our OneTeam ethos is integrated across all areas of our business and our friendly, hardworking team embrace a culture of collaboration, support, and fun.

The Role:

This is a hands-on leadership role in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. You will balance strategic oversight with day-to-day operational delivery — ensuring emergency response readiness whilst managing operational risk, coordinating airfield works and maintaining strong relationships across airlines, contractors, regulators, emergency services and internal leadership team.

We need a leader who brings structure, sound judgement and calm decision-making, alongside a strong coaching mindset and the ability to work collaboratively with the Terminal and Facilities team.
