Getting to and from Palmerston North Airport (PNAL) is now made easier thanks to the formalised arrangement between Uber and PNAL to deliver a streamlined experience for travellers and visitors alike.

PNAL’s Commercial and Customer Experience Manager Olivia Pierre believes that the Uber platform will offer another great transport option for travelling customers and is pleased to welcome Uber to its ground transport and airport community.

“Recent feedback received from customers engaged in focus groups, highlighted to us the importance of providing transport options and keeping up with app-based technology solutions which customers enjoy. We are pleased to offer a dedicated area for ridesharing services. This will in turn provide certainty for travellers on where to catch their ride share service.”

The rideshare pick up and drop off area is located outside the front of the airport terminal next to the ‘approved and licenced pre-booked services’ signage.

General Manager of Uber Australia and New Zealand, Dom Taylor, said the move would be a game-changer in convenience and choice for travellers when travel opens up.

“After months of lockdown and a few cancelled holidays, being able to push a button and get a ride when you touch down at Palmerston North airport will make it easier than ever for domestic, and eventually international visitors, alike,” he said.

“Since Uber launched in New Zealand in 2014, locals and visitors alike have been looking to Uber to access a tech transport platform which includes GPS-tracked rides, an in-app Safety Toolkit, 24/7 customer support and feedback after every trip. And in 2019, visitors from more than 83 countries relied on the Uber app while travelling in Aotearoa.”

Uber’s platform connects driver-partners with riders. Riders can use the Uber app to request a ride. When a nearby driver partner accepts a rider’s request, the app displays an estimated time of arrival for the driver partner heading to the pickup location. The Uber app is free to download on Apple Store or Google Play Store.
