Palmerston north airport carpark developments

Palmerston North Airport are excited to announce several important updates to our carpark facilities, designed to enhance your carparking experience and support the commencement of our Terminal Development Project.

Licence plate recognition

Effective 12 August 2024, we will introduce Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) system across both the General and Long Stay Carparks. The ticketless entry, exit and payment system uses licence plate recognition to read your vehicle licence plate number, rather than requiring you to take a paper ticket.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Windows Up Entry and Exit: With LPR, your licence plate will be automatically read upon entry and exit, eliminating the need for paper tickets, and reducing wait times at entry and exit barriers.
  • Convenient Payment Options: Payment for parking will be more convenient, as the system will link your licence plate to your payment method, allowing for easy, contactless transactions, including PayWave at carpark exits.

Relocation of taxi/rideshare rank

To facilitate preparations for the first stage of the Terminal Development Project, the taxi and rideshare rank will be relocated to the right-hand pickup and drop-off lane within the General Car Park.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • This change will take effect from 12 August 2024. We request that taxi and rideshare users allow extra time to familiarise themselves with the new location.
  • The relocation is necessary to enable our contractors to begin enabling works for the Terminal Development Project.

Terminal Loop Road layout change

To address health and safety concerns, changes are being made to the Terminal Loop Road layout:

  • Barrier Arm Installation: A barrier arm will be installed across the Terminal Loop Road adjacent to the General Car Park entry. This measure aims to regulate and manage vehicle access to the terminal frontage during construction. Access to the Terminal Loop Road will be limited to authorised vehicles only including public buses, emergency services, courier companies, and construction vehicles.
  • All other vehicles must use the General Carpark.
